10 TIPS How to Prevent Hair Breakage: Part 1

How to Prevent Hair Breakage Part 1 Archaic Human1. Pre-poo people! When your hair is feeling really dry and you seem to have this dryness for long periods of time, add pre-pooing to your regimen. The oils will help nourish your hair as they penetrate the hair shaft. If your shampoo is a strong cleanser and tends to strip the moisture away from your hair, pre-pooing reduces the harsh effects of the shampoo and act as a protective barrier leaving your hair moisturised and less dry.

If you want to step it up a notch, do hot oil treatments. A hot oil treatment is when you warm up the oil before applying it to your hair. The heat from the oil opens up your hair shaft, making it easier for the oils to penetrate the strands. This method works especially well for those with low porosity hair.

2. Use gentle cleansing shampoos that will not strip your hair of all its moisture. Go for more natural and water-based products that will add moisture to your hair.

3. Deep condition, deep condition, deep condition! If possible try to deep condition every time you wash your hair! There are quick deep conditioners that require you cover your hair for 3-5 minutes but if you’re serious about your moisture game, put on a plastic cap, cover it with your warmest beanie and give it 30 minutes to an hour. Yes, we are not playing around!

4. Rinse with cold water. After deep conditioning, rinse your hair with cold water to close the hair cuticles and seal in that moisture and nourishment you worked so hard to get in. Trust me it makes a huge difference!

5. Seal in the moisture. This is the right time to apply your wonderful oils and hair butters! Think of them as a trap to keep that moisture in the hair. Apply ONLY after you've added water or a hair mist. If you have low porosity hair, go for the lighter oils like grapeseed, argan and coconut oil and don’t get too heavy handed with the butters as they’ll weigh your hair down. If you have high porosity hair use heavier oils like castor oil or an oil mix to seal in the moisture.
