Beginner's Series 3: Create a Routine

RSS

Now that you’ve gathered your essential hair products that work well with your porosity it’s time to develop a routine. This can be very challenging if you’re used to just winging it. When you are a new natural, a routine will be your saving grace.

It is generally recommended that you wash your hair at least once a week, every week. (Again, consider this as a beginner’s guide). So based on your life schedule, try to pick a day that you are usually free (and stick to it!) On this day, focus on doing your hair without rushing.

This is because when you are starting out, you need to be extra patient with your hair. It won’t necessarily take an entire day but you don’t want to rush things. As you get to know and understand how your hair works, you can experiment with shortcuts and how to get the best results with less time and effort etc. You cannot do this when you don’t know how your hair works.

When you create a routine that becomes a habit, your hair will thank you for it. Your hair will respond better because it will know what to expect.

Remember to stick to your routine, and pretty soon you’ll be looking forward to wash day!
