Moisture Series: Deep Condition
A deep conditioning treatment is a method used to achieve maximum moisture and nourishment into the hair strands.
HOW DO I DEEP CONDITION?
Shampoo hair, then apply your conditioner of choice to your hair. Let it sit for 15 minutes to 1 hour or as prescribed on the bottle. Cover your hair with a plastic bag or cap and wear a beanie on top to add heat to the head.
Alternatively, you can warm your conditioner in hot water before applying to your hair and then rinse off with cold water to close the cuticle and seal the moisture.
WHICH CONDITIONER SHOULD I USE?
The conditioner you choose to use should depend on what you are trying to achieve. Perhaps you need a moisture treatment or a protein treatment or even a balance of both. Looking at what is written on the label of your product can give you an indication of what the product is meant to do. Phrases like "moisture replenishing" indicate that the conditioning treatment is meant to boost moisture. However, phrases such as "repair and reconstruct" indicate that the product you're using may be more of a protein treatment and will focus on strengthening your hair strands.
HOW OFTEN SHOULD I DEEP CONDITION?
Include deep conditioning as part of your hair regimen. Consider deep conditioning your hair every time you wash your hair or at least twice a month. Ensure that you take the time to focus on your ends as they are the oldest part of your hair.
Although many swear by deep conditioning overnight it is not necessary; 15 minutes to an hour should suffice.
SHOULD I DIY?
If you prefer to create your own deep conditioning treatment in your kitchen you're more than welcome to do so. There are a number of recipes that you can find online to help you achieve whatever your hair requires. It's all about preference and convenience.
Please ensure that you refrigerate your DIY conditioners to avoid bacteria if your product is all natural and does not contain preservatives.
DISCLAIMER: it has been said that the ingredients you use in your kitchen from your groceries will serve a greater purpose if you ate them rather than put them in your hair. What are your thoughts on this?
